Toshiro K. Ohsumi

Senior Director, Head of Bioinformatics at Be Bio

Toshiro K. Ohsumi has a long and impressive work experience. Toshiro K. is currently the Senior Director, Head of Bioinformatics at Be Biopharma. Prior to this, they were the Director of Computational Biology at Repare Therapeutics where they worked on data analytics and development of new methodologies to facilitate development of new oncology drugs taking advantage of synthetic lethality. Before that, they were a Senior Software Engineer at Google where they worked on featured snippets within search and increased coverage in India by over 50%. Toshiro K. was also a Senior Computational Scientist at Seres Therapeutics, where they developed the primary database and pipelines used to develop the drug and analyze the microbiome results for their Phase I/II trial. Toshiro K. was also a Research Affiliate and Bioinformatics Specialist II at Massachusetts General Hospital, where they worked on next-generation sequencing and designed and coded a novel C++11 framework for analysis. Additionally, they were a Research Affiliate and Computational Biologist at the Broad Institute, where they analyzed output from next generation DNA sequencers. Toshiro K. was also a Research Associate in Genetics at Harvard Medical School. Lastly, they were an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Colgate University, where they taught algorithms, operating systems, numerical methods, Java, and introduction to computers for non-majors.

Toshiro K. Ohsumi received their B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Toshiro K. then pursued a M.A. in Applied Mathematics from UC Irvine from 1990 to 1994. Following that, they earned a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1995. Finally, they completed their Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2003.
