Gaston Gelos currently serves as Deputy Head of the Monetary and Economic Department and Head of Financial Stability at the Bank for International Settlements since September 2023. Previously, Gaston Gelos spent nearly 25 years at the International Monetary Fund, holding various senior roles including Assistant Director for the Western Hemisphere Department and Mission Chief for Mexico. Significant contributions include leadership in the Global Financial Stability Report and overseeing financial assessments in Japan and Nicaragua. Prior to the IMF, Gaston Gelos worked in consultancy and research roles at institutions such as Banco de México, The World Bank, and the German Parliament. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and a Diplom in Economics from The University of Bonn.
