Ofelia Maldonado Zapata has been a community leader for more than 30 years, including as one of the veteran leaders of Austin Interfaith, a multi-faith and diverse group of organizations in race and economic backgrounds from throughout Austin. Austin Interfaith works on issues that teach and train ordinary people to participate in civic life, to make systemic changes to improve the quality of life for all families.
She served three years as president of the Eastside Memorial Early College High School PTSA. Recently she helped create an Advocates for Social Justice Reform that focuses on criminal justice reform. She was appointed by Travis County Commissioners as a community representative in the new Public Defenders Office. She is also the community organizer of the newly formed Texas Anti Poverty Project in partnership with Maya Consulting, an education consulting firm.
Mrs. Zapata continues to also serve on legal aid, health care, housing and economic boards of directors that brings a her vision of holistic approach to educating all AISD students.
