Álex Turpin Avilés, PhD, currently serves as the AI Capability Lead at AstraZeneca, focusing on governance and digital health capabilities in Artificial Intelligence to enhance global health outcomes. With an extensive academic background, Álex holds honorary positions as a Research Fellow and Lord Kelvin Adam Smith Fellow in Data Science at the University of Glasgow, supervising research in AI and Data Science. Experience also includes consulting at secpho, leading R&D for Capitole, and heading product engineering at iLoF, where a data-centric culture was fostered. Álex has held significant leadership roles, including CEO of Doppler & Hertz, and contributed academically as an Assistant Professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. With a strong foundation in Physics and Photonics, supported by a robust educational background from prestigious institutions, Álex is recognized for innovative contributions to AI and photonics through various research and entrepreneurial ventures.
