Michael Kays has a diverse work experience in the retail industry. Michael started their career as an associate buyer at Foley's Dept. Store in 1989 and worked there until 1995. Michael then joined Neiman Marcus as a buyer/merchandise manager, where they stayed until 2003. At JCPenney, they held the position of sr. buyer from 2003 to 2011, specializing in furniture and electronics. In 2011, they joined Ashley Furniture Industries, initially working as an ecommerce consultant, responsible for various aspects of building an ecommerce site. Later, they became the national rental accounts manager, and currently serves as the vice president of rental sales at the company.

Michael Kays attended Plano Senior High School from 1980 to 1984. Michael then pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin from 1985 to 1988.
