Ana Catarina Silva

Head of Innovation at Aquaticode

Ana Catarina Silva has a strong background in the aquaculture industry. Ana Catarina is currently the Head of Innovation at Aquaticode, a position they have held since August 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Aquaculture Research Lead at Aquaticode from December 2019 to September 2022.

Before joining Aquaticode, Ana worked as a Freelance Consultant from 2017 to 2019, providing their expertise to various organizations. Some of their notable projects included conducting hatchery audits for SeaLink Technologies in Bilbao, Spain, implementing biosecurity protocols for Ocean Matters in Anglesey, Wales, and providing weekly support to Ferme Marine de Mahebourg in Point aux Feuilles, Mauritius.

From 2015 to 2017, Ana was the Production Manager at Ferme Marine de Mahebourg, where they successfully oversaw the hatchery and nursery operations, increasing production targets and ensuring the highest quality fish. Ana Catarina also managed a team of 17 workers and implemented daily routines and quality checklists.

Prior to their role at Ferme Marine de Mahebourg, Ana worked at Selonda from 2011 to 2015. Initially, they served as a Hatchery Supervisor, responsible for fish husbandry and production of sea bream and red porgy. Later, they transitioned into the role of Live Food, Hatchery, and Nursery Technician, where they focused on mass production of microalgae, rotifers, and Artemia to meet the station's hatchery needs.

Overall, Ana Catarina Silva's work experience showcases their expertise in aquaculture research, hatchery and nursery management, and innovation in the field.

Ana Catarina Silva completed their education with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Aquaculture from Wageningen University & Research, from 2008 to 2010. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Marine Biology from Universidade do Algarve, from 2005 to 2008.

In addition to their degrees, Ana also holds a certification in Scuba Diving from the World Underwater Federation. Ana Catarina obtained this certification, known as the Scuba Diving International Certificate CMAS - P1 -, in November 2004.
