In this role, they focused on isolating and culturing plant-associated microbes, extracting and quantifying DNA, and utilizing various assays to characterize bacterial isolates.

Afterward, Benjamin joined Agrinos as a Research Associate III from August 2016 to March 2020. Here, they specialized in strain isolation, identification, and phenotypic characterization of environmental bacteria. Benjamin also gained expertise in DNA extraction, quantification, primer/probe design, and digital PCR. Additionally, they performed bioinformatics work, including assembly, annotation, and analysis of whole-genome/metagenomic sequences.

Most recently, Benjamin joined Apeel Sciences in April 2020 and has held two positions within the company to date. Benjamin started as a Scientist II, contributing to the company's mission of improving access to quality food while reducing waste. In this role, they were responsible for various scientific activities, and they also participated in the development of the company's open opportunities. Benjamin was later promoted to the position of Senior Scientist, which they currently hold, indicating their growing expertise and contributions to the organization.

Throughout their career, Benjamin Gordon has demonstrated a strong background in scientific research, particularly in the areas of microbiology, genetics, and bioinformatics. Their experiences encompass a range of responsibilities, from laboratory techniques to data analysis and interpretation.

Benjamin Gordon attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2011 to 2013, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Earth, Society, and Environment. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biology, Plant and Microbial at the same university from 2014 to 2015.
