Esmeralda Schemmekes is a seasoned communication professional with extensive experience in science communication and public engagement. Currently serving as a Science Communication Advisor at The Netherlands Cancer Institute since August 2022, Esmeralda has previously worked as a Communication Officer at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, where responsibilities included leading projects for online communication platforms. Prior experience also includes roles in customer service at BCC Elektro-speciaalzaken BV, and various internships focusing on scientific research and communication strategy at Sanquin, VU University Medical Center, and Emma Children's Hospital. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Life Sciences from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, supplemented by specialized communication training.
