Carl Galewski

Director Of Equipment Technology at Amprius Technologies

Carl Galewski has over 27 years of experience in the engineering field. Carl began their career in 1994 as the Director of Strategic Technology at Genus Inc., where they were responsible for new product development, customer interactions, and the development of films deposited by CVD, MOCVD, and PECVD. Carl also provided the shape, design features, and modeling approach of a patented 300 mm wafer process chamber. In 2000, they became the Director of Corporate Technology at Mattson Technology Inc., where they formed and managed the Corporate Technology Department for IP management, technology evaluations for Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), process chamber modeling, corporate R&D projects, and implementation of ISO procedure for new product development. In 2002, they were a founding member of Sundew Technologies LLC, a start-up company to develop ALD equipment and technology. Carl designed and implemented a complete LabVIEW based automated control system for alpha tool, both software and hardware, and created and maintained a database on worldwide patents and applications. In 2004, they became the Director of Vacuum Technology and Integration at Crossing Automation, where they were responsible for all vacuum related specifications, designs, pump & vent performance, vacuum integrity, residual gas analysis (RGA), and customer qualifications for a compact vacuum wafer transport system. In 2012, they became the Sr. Director of Process Technology at PlasmaSi, Inc., where they wrote IP disclosures for a novel linear plasma source, implemented a fully automated LabVIEW based control system for a prototype tool, and drove the development of plasma source hardware and deposition processes for photo-voltaic and OLED display applications. In 2015, they became the Principal Engineer at AIXTRON SE, where they were a key employee to ensure the complete transfer of PlasmaSi OLED barrier technology to Aixtron SE. Carl designed the gas flow control system and managed the activities of 3 external suppliers, 3 internal engineering teams, and safety contractor, and shipped the completed process tool on time with a schedule compressed by 1/3rd. In 2018, they became an Independent Contractor at Technical Consulting Services, where they had expertise in thin-film deposition, design of experiments (DOE), vacuum chamber technology, intellectual property (IP), technical marketing, and LabVIEW programming. In 2019, they became the Director of Engineering at HiPic Inc., and in 2021 they became the Director of Equipment Engineering at Amprius Inc.

Carl Galewski holds a Ph.D. and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. Carl also holds a number of certifications from Coursera, including Databases and SQL for Data Science (obtained in August 2019), Data Science Methodology (obtained in July 2019), Open Source tools for Data Science (obtained in June 2019), What is Data Science?
