Adena Dacy

Associate Director, Health Care Services In Speech-language Pathology at ASHA

Adena Dacy has extensive work experience in the field of speech-language pathology. Adena currently holds the position of Associate Director, Health Care Services in Speech-Language Pathology at The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a role they have held since March 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Associate Director, Clinical Issues in Speech-Language Pathology at ASHA from July 2013 to March 2022.

In addition to their work at ASHA, Adena has also worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist at the Stroke Comeback Center from August 2019 to March 2020. Before that, they served as a Research Assistant in the Department of Planning Development and Dissemination at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center (Clerc Center) from September 2012 to December 2014.

Adena's work experience also includes a role as a Speech-Language Pathologist at the Snyder Center for Aphasia Life Enhancement (SCALE) from July 2009 to December 2012. These positions have provided their with a comprehensive understanding of speech-language pathology and its applications in healthcare and clinical settings.

Adena Dacy has a diverse education history in the field of communication sciences and disorders. Adena obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Speech-Language Pathology from James Madison University in 1989. Adena then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh, which they completed in 1991.

In 1992, they earned the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). This certification demonstrates their competence in the field.

Adena further expanded their knowledge and skills through various graduate certificate programs. In 1996, they completed an Interpreter Preparation Certificate in ASL & Interpreter Preparation from the Community College of Baltimore County. Later in 2012, they obtained a Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Studies: Deaf/Hard of Hearing Infants, Toddlers and their Families from Gallaudet University.

Currently, Adena is pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Disability Studies in Public Health from The University of Connecticut Health Center. This program is expected to be completed between 2022 and 2024.

In addition to their academic achievements, Adena holds two significant certifications. Adena obtained Maryland State Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology from the Maryland Board of Examiners for Audiologist, Hearing Aid Dispensers, Speech Language Pathologist, and Music Therapist in 1995. This certification validates their professional qualifications in the state of Maryland. Furthermore, they earned the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA in 1992, which is a nationally recognized certification.
