Susan Burkett is the Alabama Power Foundation Endowed Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at The University of Alabama (UA). She received her Ph.D. is in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1992. In August 2016, she was appointed Associate Vice President for Research at UA. Professor Burkett has been in academia for 24 years. Her research has involved the development of copper filled through silicon vias for 3D electronic packaging. She coordinates a NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates Site with renewable resources being the research theme. She served as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) in 2005. At NSF, she was responsible for managing programs that provide exemplary materials and instruction in engineering education. During that time she assisted in proposal writing workshops held at NSF and at the national symposia for both the American Society of Engineering Education and Frontiers in Education. Dr. Burkett has been a member of the AVS Science and Technology Society for over 30 years. Her AVS activities include: Board of Directors, Short Course Executive Committee, MEMS/NEMS Group Program Committee, History Committee, Professional Leadership Committee, Membership Committee, and UA AVS Student Chapter Faculty Advisor.
