Shan Overton currently serves as the Dean of Academics and Associate Professor of Practical Theology at American Baptist College and is a Freelance Writer, Editor, and Consultant at Cedar Commons. Overton previously held the role of Director of the Center for Writing and Learning Support at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where significant contributions included establishing the center, developing courses in creative writing and public theology, and leading various academic committees. Educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Theology & Education from Boston College and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University. Overton's extensive teaching experience spans various institutions, including Volunteer State Community College, Holy Innocents' Episcopal School, Boston College, and Vanderbilt Divinity School, alongside significant leadership roles in community literacy initiatives.
