Hongchuan Yu

Associate Director Medicinal Chemistry at Alltrna

Hongchuan Yu has a diverse work experience in the field of medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical research. Hongchuan is currently serving as an Associate Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Alltrna since November 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Dicerna Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for three years, starting as a Research Scientist II from May 2018 to January 2020 and then as a Senior Scientist from January 2020 to October 2021.

Before joining Dicerna Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Hongchuan Yu worked at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University as an Assistant Professor. During their time there from September 2012 to May 2018, they made significant contributions to the development of non-toxic and biodegradable drug delivery systems and RNA therapeutics. Hongchuan also served as an Instructor from September 2015 to March 2017 and as a Research Associate from September 2012 to August 2015.

Prior to their work at The Warren Alpert Medical School, Yu worked in Larry W. McLaughlin's Group as a Research Assistant from September 2007 to May 2012. Hongchuan played a key role in designing and synthesizing novel cyclonucleosides and optimizing DNA derived nanomaterials for gene and RNA delivery.

Yu's earlier work experiences include serving as a Teaching Assistant at Boston College from September 2006 to May 2009, where they taught lab lectures on Analytical and Organic Chemistry. Hongchuan also worked in James P. Morken's Group as a Research Assistant from October 2006 to August 2007, focusing on organometallic ligand design and synthesis.

Hongchuan Yu's academic journey began at Fudan University, where they obtained their Bachelor's degree in 2006. During this time, they also worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in Yi Tang's Lab, contributing to research projects from October 2004 to May 2006.

Hongchuan Yu earned a Ph.D in Chemistry from Boston College, where they studied from 2006 to 2012. Prior to that, they completed their bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Fudan University, from 2002 to 2006.
