Brad Smith is an experienced professional in the mining and environmental sectors, currently serving as the Mining Practice Lead for Water, Closure Planning, and Decarbonisation at Alcoa since April 2022. Prior to this role, Brad held various positions at BHP between August 2003 and April 2022, including Lead Innovation for Mining Decarbonisation, where notable projects included the Charge On Innovation Challenge and renewable fuels landscape assessments. Brad also contributed significantly to water treatment technology assessments and mine closure planning, with a focus on environmental strategy development and performance evaluation. Earlier career experiences include management roles at SITA Australia in landfill operations and compliance, along with practical earthmoving work at Derricks Earthmoving. Brad holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Natural Resources Management and Policy from The University of Western Australia.
