Shane Good has extensive experience in the zoo industry. Shane started their career at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in 1992 as an Animal Keeper, gaining experience with a wide range of animal species. In 2003, they became President and Board Member of The American Association of Zoo Keepers, where they managed budgeting and strategic planning for the organization. Shane also served as President and Steering Committee Member of the International Congress of Zookeepers, playing a key role in bringing together international organizations to form a nonprofit association. In 2012, Shane joined the Akron Zoo as an Animal Curator, managing teams of zookeepers and overseeing the Avian, Hoofstock, and Primate programs. Shane later became the Director of Collection Management, responsible for the entire Animal Care Department and served on various committees. Currently, Shane holds the position of Senior Director of Animal Care at the Akron Zoo, where they oversee the Animal Care Department, manages a team of six zoo managers, and handles a budget of $5.7 million.
Shane Good has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology from Baldwin Wallace University. They also have an Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree in Wildlife, Fish and Wildlands Science and Management from Hocking College. Additionally, Shane has a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biology, General from Cleveland State University. They also have a certification as an Ohio - Public Applicator of Pesticides, obtained in 1993 from the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
