Matt Mayer is the founder of Atypical CEO and the Arete Initiative. Matt is also an associate of The Natural Step Canada. Matt has dedicated their career to helping people and organizations live up to their highest potential through strategy, innovation and organizational excellence.

Matt has worked on a variety of projects, including leading the design and delivery of the Circular Economy Innovation Lab and being a member of the design and delivery team of the Energy Futures Lab. Matt has also facilitated multiple strategic-planning and capacity-building programs for executive and mid-level management teams. In addition, Matt has co-facilitated the IMPACT! Youth Sustainability Leadership program in Calgary and has designed and delivered sustainability leadership certificate courses.

Matt is licensed to use The Natural Step Framework through Conscious Brands. Matt is passionate about helping organizations embed sustainability into their operations. Matt believes that sustainability is essential for businesses to thrive in the 21st century.

Matt Mayer is currently a Doctor of Business Administration student at the University of Calgary. Their field of study is business and commerce, and they is expected to graduate in 2023. Prior to their current degree, Matt Mayer completed a Master of Science at the Blekinge Institute of Technology. Their focus was on strategic leadership towards sustainability, and they graduated with distinction in 2010. During their time at the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Matt Mayer was elected co-president of the class council and authored a thesis on the business case for sustainability in small and medium sized enterprises in the UK and Sweden.
