Justin Bouchard has extensive work experience in the energy industry, with a focus on energy transition and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. Justin began their career as a Field Operator and Production & Facilities Engineer at Northstar Energy, gaining hands-on experience in oil and natural gas operations. Justin then worked as a VP of Engineering at Demand Data Services before transitioning to IHS, Inc. as an Engineering Project Manager. Bouchard later joined TD Securities as an Oil & Gas Research Associate and Raymond James Ltd. as a Managing Director and Oil & Gas Analyst.
In 2013, Bouchard joined Desjardins Securities as the Managing Director and Head of Energy Research, where they focused on the Canadian energy sector, particularly oil sands, midstream, and large-cap companies. During this time, they increasingly concentrated on ESG and energy transition topics, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, low carbon fuel standards (LCFS), and carbon markets. In 2022, Bouchard moved to Desjardins, where they worked as a Special Energy and Energy Transition Advisor at JB Ventures Inc, creating a risk management framework to assess financed emissions.
In 2023, Bouchard founded JB Ventures Inc and became a Capital Markets - Energy and Energy Transition Consultant. More recently, in 2024, they joined the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) as an Associate Director of Research.
Throughout their career, Justin Bouchard has evaluated investment opportunities, analyzed global energy markets, and assessed new technologies, demonstrating their expertise in the energy sector and their commitment to addressing the challenges of energy transition and sustainability.
Justin Bouchard attended the University of Alberta from 1990 to 1995, where they earned a degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical. Later, from 2002 to 2004, they pursued an Executive MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, specializing in Business Administration and Management. Additionally, they obtained certifications such as CFA ESG from the CFA Institute in 2021, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute in 2009, and P.Eng from The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) in 1995.
