Robert van der Weerdt has extensive work experience in the retail industry. Robert began their career at Albert Heijn as a Category Manager for Cosmetics from 1996 to 1998. Robert then joined Ahold as the Director of Global Sourcing from 1998 to 2000, followed by the role of Director of B2B E-commerce from 2000 to 2003. Robert later served as a Senior Category Manager from 2003 to 2005 and as the Sourcing Director for General Merchandise from 2005 to 2008.

In 2008, Robert became a Shareholder and Partner at Accent Organisatie Advies B.V., where they focused on Operational Excellence, Lean Management, Risikomanagement, and Financial Performance Management until 2018.

Robert went on to work at Ahold Delhaize starting in 2016, initially as the Head of Ahold Wine Buying Center until 2021. From November 2021, they assumed the role of EU Director Sourcing A-brands & Own brands.

Robert van der Weerdt obtained their education from multiple institutions. Robert attended the University of Groningen from 1983 to 1988, where they studied Business Administration. In 2017, they pursued further education at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, completing the WSET 4 - DipWSET degree between 2017 and 2019. Additionally, in 2007, they obtained the RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore certification from RYA / MCA. Robert also attended Willem de Zwijger - Bussum from 1977 to 1983, although their degree or field of study is not specified. In 2020, they obtained the DipWSET certification from the WSET - Wine & Spirit Education Trust.
