Jane Valentine Mangwana

Advocacy Manager at APHRC

Jane is a global policy advocacy and communications expert with over 10 years of experience working with national and international organizations in human rights advocacy, health, and development in the African region. She is an Advocacy Manager within the Policy Engagement and Communications Division, where her role includes developing and implementing advocacy strategies and strengthening the capacity of CSOs in the African region in policy advocacy. Jane is a strategic thinker and creative communicator with the ability to work across teams and multiple stakeholders. Jane is passionate about mentoring and coaching young women in using their voices to advocate for women’s and girls’ rights.

Prior to joining the Center, Jane worked at the Center for Reproductive Rights as a communications coordinator for Africa where she developed and implemented communications strategies in support of girls and women’s sexual health and reproductive rights in Kenya and the region. Her role also included identifying media opportunities for program teams to engage.

She has a Master of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University.

Jane’s interest is in translating evidence and research into policy and getting decision makers to play their role in ensuring that relevant policies are implemented particularly in the health sector. She is passionate about women’s wellbeing including maternal health and access to reproductive health services and has published articles in the media on reproductive health and rights.
