Alea Garbagnati has over a decade of experience in privacy and compliance roles. Alea is currently the Head of Privacy at Adaptive Biotechnologies Corp., where they provide strategic counsel on data protection and privacy. Prior to this, they worked at Roche in various roles, including Mgr of Privacy & Compliance Counsel and Global Privacy Counsel, where they developed and implemented privacy programs and provided legal support for global privacy functions. Before joining Roche, Alea worked at Deloitte as a Senior Consultant, assisting client organizations in managing risks associated with privacy and data protection. Alea also has experience as an IP Analyst at Epicenter IP, a Research Fellow at UC Hastings Privacy & Technology Project, and a Legal Intern at Creative Commons and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Alea began their legal career as an Extern for Justice Richard McAdams at the 6th District Court of Appeals.

Alea Garbagnati attended Presentation High School for an undefined period of time, but no degree or field of study was specified. Alea then went on to UC Irvine from 2003 to 2008, where they obtained a degree in Criminology, Law & Society, and Psychology & Social Behavior. After that, from 2008 to 2011, they attended the University of California College of the Law in San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), where they obtained a degree in Intellectual Property. Additionally, Alea Garbagnati obtained the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals in October 2012.
