Achievement First invites passionate World Language educators to apply for the position of World Language Teacher (Spanish). Teaching at Achievement First is an ideal position for a World Language educator who is a master of the Spanish language, believes in the importance of communication in languages other than English, and is passionate about cultivating a desire to deepen connections with other cultures worldwide.Â
Here, you will be the driver of world language instruction as students fall in love with cultures from around the world. You will be a champion for world languages who believes that all students are capable of learning another language and engaging with the native cultures where that language is the major form of communication.Â
Responsibilities of Achievement First World Language Teachers will include but are not limited to:Â Â
Outstanding linguistic achievement and personal development Â
- Create a culture in which students, staff, and families develop a love for World Language(s) and the native culture of the countries where the language(s) is the primary means of communication
- Develop a culture of world language exploration through inquiry-based teaching and immersion in the target language.
- Build a schoolwide world language community by partnering with families and staff to facilitate children’s engagement in world languages and celebrate the native cultures where the language is the primary form of communicationÂ
- Exemplify AF’s core values in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.Â
Professional learning, development, and growthÂ
- Collaborate with world language teachers across the organization to build a world-class world language program.
- Collaborate with your coach, grade-level chair, and school team to improve instructional, culture-building, and leadership skills.Â
- Attend all professional development, team planning, and data analysis meetings.
- Participate enthusiastically in structured and informal learning and development opportunities.Â
Skills and CharacteristicsÂ
- A linguist who continues to nurture their own mastery of (Spanish) and the native cultures where that language serves as the primary form of communication
- Bilingual (English + Spanish)
- Strong world language instruction and classroom management skills.Â
- High level of personal organization and planning.Â
- Team player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, sense of humor, willingness to respond positively to feedback, and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude.
- Strong belief in the Achievement First mission, core values, and educational model.
Educational Background and Work ExperienceÂ
- Two years of teaching experience with a proven record of high student achievement preferred.Â
- Bachelor’s degree in a Foreign Language (Spanish) or associated cultural studies
- Preferred Minimum achievement of Advanced-Mid on an ACTFL-certified assessment such as the APPT.
- Â Connecticut certified or in the process of obtaining a certification.
Compensation
- Employees at Achievement First are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. Teachers' salaries range from $50,600-$89,989, based on experience.
