Bryan Smith has had a successful career in the advertising industry, starting in 1999 as an Assistant Account Manager at Spier New York. Here, they gained experience in book publishing, working with companies such as Viking, Penguin, Random House, and the Library of America.
In 2000, Bryan joined Cliff Freeman & Partners as an Assistant Account Executive, where they worked on retail campaigns for Staples and Quiznos, showcasing their creativity and helping create successful marketing materials.
Moving on to Bartle Bogle Hegarty in 2002, Bryan continued to grow in the industry. Bryan began as an Account Manager and then transitioned to an Account Planner, learning the strategy craft and working with clients such as Unilever and Diageo. During their time at BBH, Bryan played a key role in driving the strategy for Axe, pioneering branded content and launching global campaigns.
In 2005, Bryan became a Planning Director/Strategy Director, leading strategy for NYC's tourism arm and partnering with the Shanghai office to win the global Sprite business. Bryan developed innovative campaigns and helped make New York City the number one destination in the US.
Bryan was then promoted to Deputy Head of Planning/Strategy at BBH, where they worked closely with creative directors and developed a new, collaborative approach to generating ideas. Bryan also rebooted the strategy department's internship program to attract talent from a wider range of backgrounds.
In 2011, Bryan joined 72andSunny as a Strategy Director, contributing to the agency's growth and success by leading global brands such as Google and Call of Duty. Bryan helped the company elevate its planning process and drove the agency's expansion.
In 2017, Bryan was promoted to Executive Strategy Director at 72andSunny, overseeing a 30+ person department and setting a high standard for the strategic product. Bryan also played a key role in training programs, annual planning, business development, and culture-building.
Most recently, Bryan became the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at 72andSunny in September 2022. In this role, they continue to drive the agency's growth and success by marrying a competitive vision for the business with a commitment to the brand and its people.
Throughout their career, Bryan has demonstrated strong leadership skills, a passion for creativity, and an ability to drive growth for their clients and agencies.
Bryan Smith pursued their undergraduate education from 1995 to 1999 at Carleton College. Bryan successfully obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, graduating Magna Cum Laude and being inducted into the Phi Beta Kapa honor society.
