Peter Chen is the current Managing Director of Tech Investments at 5Y Capital. Peter has also worked as an MBA Intern at Qiming Venture Partners, a Senior Software Engineer at Google, and a Sensor Software Developer II at BlackBerry. In addition, they are a Cofounder of TagTalk.
Peter Chen began their career in 2008 as a Sensor Software Developer II at BlackBerry. In this role, they were responsible for developing sensor software for BlackBerry devices. Peter then left BlackBerry in 2013 to cofound TagTalk, a startup that developed a social network for connecting people with similar interests. However, the company was not successful and shut down after only six months.
In 2015, Peter Chen joined Google as a Senior Software Engineer. Peter led the development of context-aware sensor software for next-generation Google Glass and new wearable devices. During their time at Google, they introduced an activity recognition engine that provided always-on context awareness with lower power consumption and longer battery life than original Google Glass, enabling new user cases in fitness and health applications. Peter also designed a new wearable product concept and successfully pitched it to higher management for further prototyping. In addition, they investigated bone conduction transducer fitting issues on wearables and patented novel sensor fusion algorithms.
In 2017, Peter Chen left Google to intern at Qiming Venture Partners as an MBA Intern in the TMT sector. Peter then joined 5Y Capital as the Managing Director of Tech Investments in July of that year.
Peter Chen reports to Richard Liu, Founding Partner. Peter Chen works with Hanson Hu - Executive Director, Yu Cheng - Venture Partner, and Victor Jin - Managing Director.
