Toyota Promotes New Digital Tech Lead For North America

Toyota has elevated Brian Kursar to Group Vice President of Digital Technology.

Kursar, a company veteran, will also retain his title as CTO for both Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) and Toyota Connected North America (TCNA). He will report to TMNA CIO Holly Walters and TCNA's Zack Hicks.

In his expanded role, Kursar will drive Toyota’s technology modernization strategy with a focus on software and cloud-first principles as well as the adoption of a data-driven culture across Toyota, according to a . He will also oversee AI Mobility Services, Telematics Safety and Convenience Services, and UX and Digital Cockpit Software Engineering at TCNA).

Kursar initially joined Toyota’s North American division in 2002 and has worked across its Vehicle Supply Chain, Enterprise Architecture, Data Engineering, Advanced Analytics, Product Quality, Incentives, and R&D units. While at Toyota, Kursar has played a large role in designing a connected global cloud architecture for the company.

In August 2020, Toyota and Amazon to leverage AWS’s cloud services to expand Toyota’s Mobility Services Platform. The collaboration between Toyota and AWS is aimed at improving internal data sharing as well as laying the foundation for the company’s connected, autonomous, and electric vehicles.
