Harry Sun, a former Indeed and Amazon executive, has joined Sonder as its new VP of Engineering, the company revealed to The Org.
The newly-created role places Sun at the head of the proptech company’s software engineering organization and gives him a seat on the company’s senior leadership team.
A veteran tech executive, Sun brings more than two decades of experience to the hospitality startup, which operates hotels and leased properties through its online platform. Before Sonder, Sun was the Head of Technology at Indeed and spent more than a decade as Amazon’s Director of Software Engineering.
Sun’s expertise will help Sonder continue to improve its app, which its co-founder and CEO Francis Davidson as “a lobby on your phone.” Through the company’s app, users can book rooms, check-in, connect to WiFi, view curated neighborhood recommendations, message Sonder’s team, receive updates on their requests and check out.
Sun joins the California-based company on the heels of its Nasdaq debut. The company went public on January 18 following the closure of its with Gores Metropoulos II.
The combination gave the startup some much-needed cash to help it rapidly expand its footprint and platform as it takes aim at business travel — until mid-2021, the company primarily served leisure travelers.
