Metromile has a new VP of Data, Colleen Qiu, who joins the auto insurance disruptor with a bevy of experience including time at Tesla and Poshmark.
Qiu, who reports to CTO Paw Andersen, is the new exec in charge of all of Metromile's data infrastructure and processes. The role is a crucial one for the digital-first insurance startups as she also supports all of its analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning efforts.
In a statement provided to The Org, Andersen says she has joined the company at an exciting time. "Not only are we truly a data-driven company, but our product is also data and data science. She will be a key part of the technology leadership and play an important role in helping us provide fairer and more personalized insurance to more people," he stated.
Looking forward, Qiu is working on lowering costs and improving customer experience. However, in a , she said she also aims to help the company āfigure out how to cover full self-driving cars and shared car ownership with potentially different pricing models.ā
Qiuās career has been centered around data and she brings experience from leading data and analytics operations at brands, like Tesla, Chegg, eBay, and Poshmark.
Her most recent post was at Albertsons, the retail giant behind chains like Safeway and Acme, where she served as VP and Head of Data Science. Before that, she spent three years at Tesla leading the electric car company Global Service Data Science and Analytics organization. While at the two companies she was also a part of the Women in Tesla and Womenās Inspiration and Inclusion Network at Albertsons employee resource groups and is looking forward to similar opportunities at Metromile.
