Today, Metromile announced it has a new leader for its growing legal team with the addition of Junna Ro as General Counsel.

In her new role, Ro will oversee the pay-per-mile auto insurer’s rapidly expanding team of legal, regulatory, and compliance professionals.

In a statement provided to The Org, CEO Dan Preston said, “Junna joins Metromile as we prepare to bring our personalized, digital insurance nationwide as a new public company. I believe Junna’s leadership will help us make auto insurance fairer and more widely available so more people can benefit from an exceptional customer experience and greater control over what they pay.”

Ro is a 15-year insurance industry veteran who joins the digital insurance platform from CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, where she was VP, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, and Associate General Counsel. In these roles, Ro was responsible for corporate compliance and ethics, privacy, product forms, and employment law functions. She has previously held legal positions at Symantec and currently sits on the Asian Pacific Fund’s advisory council.

The UCLA and Santa Clara University law school graduate was drawn to her new opportunity Metromile due to the firm’s values-based and customer service-oriented mission as well as its innovative tech roots.

“Frankly, coming from a traditional insurance company that’s been around for a long time, I know the challenges that come with trying to innovate, Ro stated. “Being a part of the movement at Metromile to do things differently so that we can be relevant and accessible for the next generation of drivers, and meet and exceed their expectations, is exciting.”

She also served on the board of directors of the Bay Area Ethics and Compliance Association and the Korean American Bar Association of Northern California. Ro is was also the co-chair and a founding member of the National Association for Diversity in Compliance.

Her leadership, especially around the topics of diversity and inclusion, will help Metromile make auto insurance fairer and reinforce the company’s own diversity commitments, including creating a workforce that reflects its communities.

“I firmly believe that representation matters. It is crucial to understand your customers and to be knowledgeable about their experiences and needs; this is relevant if you want to stay relevant, Ro stated in a company announcing her hiring. “We have a way to go, and I want to be part of that movement.”
