Nick Tran, Vice President of Brand Marketing and Culture at Disney-owned streaming service Hulu, is Leaving to take on the role of Head of Marketing for North America at popular Chinese social networking video app TikTok.
Tran joined Hulu from Samsung in May 2018, were he was Head of Brand Culture. In his new role at TikTok he will oversee brand marketing, campaigns and social media for North America.
The news comes just a week after Hulu’s head of ad sales, Peter Naylor, announced he was leaving to become Snap’s first vice-president of sales for the Americas.
TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, is facing regulatory issues in the US, while at the same time experiencing rapid growth. The company has been taking steps to distance itself publicly from Beijing, as there are rising concerns that it censors content on its platforms. A US based team has been set up to run the app’s international operations, which is separate to the team running the Chinese version of the app.
