On Thursday afternoon, Gopuff revealed that it hired Maria Renz as its SVP of North America, a newly created role at the instant delivery company.
Renz, who will start in May and report directly to Gopuff’s co-founders and co-CEOs, Rafael IIishayev and Yakir Gola, will manage the quick commerce platform’s strategy and execution in the U.S as it expands its footprint. Her duties seem to mirror those of Bryan Batista, who joined Gopuff as SVP of International last month to oversee the company’s growth abroad.
Renz comes to Gopuff from SoFi, where she most recently worked as EVP of Consumer Finance and Wealth Management. Before that, she was the CEO of Quidsi, an Amazon-owned e-commerce platform focused on baby-care, household, and beauty products. She also spent time as Amazon’s VP of Delivery Experience and served as a technical advisor to former CEO Jeff Bezos.
“Maria has an incredible track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams, strategically executing on new initiatives and constantly innovating,” Gola said in a statement provided to The Org. “We are excited for Maria to take the reins and help lead our business into its next phase of growth as a truly global leader with a local focus.”
The commerce company, which promises near-instant deliveries of household items and basic food, currently operates in more than 1,200 cities across four countries and employs more than 15,000 employees. However, the company was forced to of its workforce, approximatly 450 employees, which could have effects on its possible IPO later this year.
In the company’s statement, Renz called Gopuff a “dynamic company with tremendous opportunity ahead,” and added, “I am excited to help shape this next chapter of growth and further enhance the customer experience as Gopuff continues to define next-gen commerce across North America”
Renz is the latest Amazon executive to join forces with Gopuff. In the last year, Gopuff has lured a handful of former senior executives from the e-commerce titan, including SVP of North America Fulfillment Sanjay Shah and VP of Global Supply Chain, Engineering and Delivery Operations Kerry Person.
