Google has hired Christopher Phillips as the new executive in charge of its Geo team, .
Phillips, the former Chief Product and Technology Officer at SiriusXM, will officially join the Silicon Valley tech giant later this month and report to SVP of Search, Assistant & Ads Prabhakar Raghavan. His new role at the top of the Geo team will place him in charge of both product and engineering for popular products like Google Maps and Google Earth as well as its enterprise offering, Google Maps Platform.
Phillips comes to Google from SiriusXM, which he joined last year after the group acquired his previous employer, Pandora, where he served as CPO and Head of Technology. Before that, he worked at Amazon as a part of the Amazon Music team and spent time in senior roles at Workspeed and Intuit.
Phillips’ prior experience at consumer-focused companies could play an important role as Google continues to improive its Maps app, which began as a tool, into a fully fleshed-out navigation and discovery platform.
