Following the departure of a senior executive, ViacomCBS has restructured its news organization under two new leaders. The network will combine the journalistic and business resources of CBS News and the CBS Television Stations under one umbrella with Neeraj Khemlani and Wendy McMahon at the helm as Presidents and Co-Heads of the new division.

Khemlani, a former executive at Hearst Newspapers, and McMahon, the former President ABCā€™s Television Stations Group, will begin early next month and report directly to CBS Entertainment Group CEO George Cheeks.

ā€œThis is an opportunity to create a news and information structure that positions CBS for the future,ā€ Cheeks said in a press release. ā€œIt speaks to our ability to scale newsgathering, production, technical and operational resources to serve both national and local, linear and digital, with the agility to deliver trusted information to every platform.

Cheeks went on to say, ā€œWendy and Neeraj have the leadership background and cross-platform accomplishments that cover all these important areas, and they share our commitment for supporting superior journalism, optimal delivery platforms and the strongest of organizational cultures.ā€

The appointments and restructuring follows the departure of Kimberly Godwin, the former EVP of News at CBS. She left the network for rival ABC news, where she is the first Black woman to lead a major broadcast news division.

By reorganizing all its resources under the pair of veteran news brings all the organizations news outlets under one roof. Previously CBS had pursued a more siloed approach to news with CBS News, local stations, and its 24/7 news stream (CBSN) all operating under parts of the organization.
